Revealing the formation histories of the first stars with the cosmic near-infrared background

چکیده
ABSTRACT The cosmic near-infrared background (NIRB) offers a powerful integral probe of radiative processes at different epochs, including the pre-reionization era when metal-free, Population III (Pop III) stars first formed. While radiation from metal-enriched, II II) likely dominates contribution to observed NIRB reionization era, Pop – if formed efficiently might leave characteristic imprints on NIRB, thanks their strong Ly? emission. Using physically motivated model star formation, we provide an analysis mean spectrum and anisotropy contributed by stellar populations z > 5. We find that in circumstances where massive persistently form molecular cooling haloes rate few times $10^{-3}\, \mathrm{ M}_\odot \ \mathrm{yr}^{-1}$, before being suppressed towards epoch (EoR) accumulated Lyman–Werner background, unique spectral signature shows up redward $1\, \mu$m sourced galaxies detailed shape amplitude depend various factors formation histories, initial mass function, LyC escape fraction so forth, most interesting scenarios with efficient are within reach forthcoming facilities, such as Spectro-Photometer for History Universe, Epoch Reionization, Ices Explorer. As result, new constraints abundance history high redshifts will be available through precise measurements next years.

Tracing the first stars with cosmic infrared background fluctuations
The deepest space and ground-based observations find metal-enriched galaxies at cosmic times when the Universe was < 1 Gyr old. These stellar populations had to be preceded by the metal-free first stars, Population III. Recent cosmic microwave background polarization measurements indicate that stars started forming early when the Universe was < ∼ 200 Myr old. Theoretically it is now thought tha...
متن کاملThe Cosmic near Infrared Background: Remnant Light from Early Stars
The redshifted ultraviolet light from early stars at z ∼ 10 contributes to the cosmic near infrared background. We present detailed calculations of its spectrum with various assumptions about metallicity and mass spectrum of early stars. We show that if the near infrared background has a stellar origin, metal-free stars are not the only explanation of the excess near infrared background; stars ...

The Near Infrared Background (NIRB) is one of a few methods that can be used to observe the redshifted light from early stars at a redshift of six and above, and thus it is imperative to understand the significance of any detection or nondetection of the NIRB. Fluctuations of the NIRB can provide information on the first structures, such as halos and their surrounding ionized regions in the Int...
